Beautiful heirloom varieties, peeled, sliced ready-to-use and packaged. (No wife/mother should have to peel their own!) Steam or briefly boil and serve with butter sauce, add freshly chopped herbs eg thyme or chives, or fresh lemon. Roast and serve, or puree roasted pumpkin on which to plate up your food. Boil, sprinkle salt, smother with a savoury white sauce. Or make fritters for a side dish, or one step further, for dessert with cinnamon. Recipe = 2 cups pumpkin cooked and mashed with a fork only. Add 2 eggs beaten with 50ml milk. Then add 1 cup flour, 1 t baking powder 1/2 t salt, mix by hand. Fry generous spoonsful in deep oil, like vetkoek. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar. The best fritters ever!
